Will I be the same teacher 10 years from now?
(my educational psychology reflection)
- In my opinion, education is an art and like artists, teachers become more refined and knowledgeable as time passes. Year after year, we begin to use techniques and practices which we can apply to almost any classroom because they fit our personality and we get the message across with ease (that is the key). As teachers, we should never forget that the students are our primary objective therefore all techniques utilized must have the students’ interest in mind. I believe that sometimes what works for one teacher may not work for another. Although ten years is a long time, it is important that teachers constantly learn and gain knowledge and confidence in themselves. This is done by interacting on a daily basis with different classes and different students. I think that within 10 years, I will fundamentally be the same person that I am today, yet what will have changed in me is that I will use new technology that will be more up to date and possibly more effective. One thing is certain, I will be constantly experimenting with different approaches to find out what works for me and disregard anything that is ineffective in teaching mathematics!

People often say, it is the duty and responsibility of a teacher to make sure student understand the subject area in which they are being taught. Undoubtedly, what makes a good teacher is someone who knows his subject area well and is able to transmit this information to the student. However, it takes both the student and the teacher to work together in this process of learning. Ultimately, not only will the student learn from his teacher but the teacher will have learned a great deal from the student. This is the reason why it is essential that both students and teachers interact with one another in order to create a friendly classroom environment.
Any subject can be interesting as long as the classroom environment is conducive to learning and students take the subject serious. As a math teacher, I’m sure that I can bring a lot of new ideas in the field of math and make it interesting and challenging at the same time. Math is more than just numbers, it can actually be a fun subject if you put your mind to it. As teachers, we will have many duties and responsibilities—we are not only educators but we are mentors, guides and evaluators.
